SpeeDx is a company specialised in molecular diagnostic solutions, providing simple detection for infectious diseases so patients can be treated better and more efficiently.
For this episode of our ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’ web series, we had a great chat with Dr. Alison Todd, one of the co-founders and Chief Scientific Officer, Colin Denver, CEO and Dr. Elisa Mokany, co-founder & Chief Technology Officer, about their story and their products.
Like many success stories, SpeeDx was born during a moment of crisis. Dr. Alison shared with us that she was working with research for a big multi-national company that decided to shut down the Australian branch during the financial crisis. It was the push she and Dr. Elisa needed to go after venture capitalists and secure funding, in 2009, to start working on SpeeDx with the technology they had started developing as researchers for Johnson & Johnson.
The first step they took was figuring out the right molecular technology by investing in research & development so they could come up with what was necessary. Today, more than a decade later, they have the technology figured out and they are able to focus on feedback from clinicians and build what needs to be built.
Currently, SpeeDx facilitates over 2,000 tests per day and they reached the mark of treating one million patients. Their technology enables the accurate diagnose of contagious diseases, providing answers to the best anti-biotic to be used for each case, avoiding failed treatments from the start.
With their sales now expanded to New Zealand, Europe, the United States as well as Australia, they have the ability to mass produce many types of test, staying ahead of the curve when it comes to first class diagnosis and treatment.
We would like to thank Dr. Alison, Dr. Elisa and Colin for their time.
